Creating and Protecting Jobs

I know how important it is that there are good jobs available locally for you, your partner and your children. Diversifying our economy has always been one of my top priorities. This helps produce security and choice in local jobs and protect us from economic downswings due to our limited industry mix.

I have helped develop council’s economic strategy, through which we seek start-ups and businesses willing to re-locate, potentially offering them incentives to move. It’s working. The effectiveness of the strategy can be seen in Caloundra and Landsborough industrial parks, which have gone from almost empty to growing successes.

New Sectors of Employment

Council is also proactively opening up new industries, for example with the Broadband Submarine Cable, operational this year. As well as generating public revenue, this will mean that the Sunshine Coast will have an advantage in bandwidth and speed. This is important to attracting businesses that rely on data processing and the internet. It is projected to create over 800 jobs.

Growth and Shared Prosperity

Independent assessments project that if the Sunshine Coast stays on its current path, its economy will more than double in the next 14 years, with a population growth much lower than that. That means more jobs to go around.
